An outdoor recreation haven for water and land, on the edge of Eureka Springs.
Lake Leatherwood is a spring-fed lake held back by a hand-cut limestone dam, sitting inside a city park that is far larger and far wilder than the phrase “city park” prepares you for. No powerboats, so the water stays flat and quiet.
The trail network is the other half of it: extensive, well-built singletrack through hardwood forest, part of the same riding scene that has made this corner of Arkansas a destination. The climbing is on real rock and graded for every level, which makes it an unusually good place to try it for the first time.
Paddle in the morning, ride in the afternoon, and be back in Bentonville for dinner.
